CHURCH LIFE
GLAD2 SMALL GROUP: This is an informal group who is Glad 2 to give, learn, and, devote ourselves to God each Sunday morning before morning worship from 9:45 - 10:30 am.
ENHANCED SENIOR FITNESS: Enhanced Senior Fitness is an exercise class at COUMC that occurs Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10:00-11:00 AM. Anyone from the community is welcome! This is a "home grown" event, patterned after a class started by the YMCA. It includes low impact cardiovascular exercises with strength and agility training aimed toward keeping fitness into maturity.
UNITED METHODIST WOMEN: Our local unit of United Methodist Women organizes several service projects throughout the year to raise awareness and financial support for worldwide and local missions and ministries.
ENGAGE - YOUTH & FAMILY MINISTRIES: ENGAGE exists to provide hands-on opportunities for K-12 youth and their parents/guardians to help serve our community in fun and creative ways, exploring what it means to offer hope, healing, and hospitality. Participants receive a monthly newsletter including event and program updates, family devotional ideas and tools, and volunteer opportunities throughout the community. CHURCH CHOIR: If you enjoy singing, you may be interested in serving through music and joining our church choir led by Karen Postema, our church music director. Our choir practices on Friday mornings at 11:15am, September through May.
During the summer months, the choir takes a hiatus, and you can participate in musical worship with solo or group performances.

LITURGICAL DANCE: If you enjoy dancing, you may be interested in serving through dance and joining our liturgical dance group led by Heather Rosan. Worship through liturgical dance occurs one or two times a year during our Sunday morning worship, and sometimes at Christmas or Easter worship services.
R.E.A.L. WOMEN: Standing for Relationships, Encouragement, Accountability, and Laughter, R.E.A.L. Women is a social and support group for women of COUMC and the surrounding communities striving to provide discipleship and education about Christianity—how it relates to the world around us in our everyday lives—and to provide leadership in the church to discuss and implement new ideas and processes for the betterment of the church family and community. R.E.A.L. Women meet the 2nd Thursday of each month for a dinner and topic of discussion, but on hiatus for the summer. You do not have to be affiliated with the church to join in the dinner and topic of discussion, which will change for each meeting, so all women are welcome, and all attendees are encouraged to invite a friend.
MARY-MARTHA CIRCLE: Mary-Martha Circle collects Labels, Boxes, and Tabs throughout the year and participates in other fundraising projects to support the Red Bird Mission. Mary-Martha Circle also meets throughout the year to plan various activities, such as an annual Spring Tea or to plan a Mom2Mom sale, and to discuss other ways they can extend their outreach. HOLIDAY BAZAAR: Each year in November, the United Methodist Women of Courtland-Oakfield hold their annual Holiday Bazaar complete with area crafters, luncheon, silent auction, bake sale, and Granny's Attic. If you are an interested, please contact us for more information. Please be aware that this is event on hold during covid.
BREAKFAST GATHERING: On hold.
ANNUAL FISH FRY: Enjoy this traditional meal at Courtland-Oakfield each year during the Lenten season. A battered fried fish dinner with several side dishes, dessert, and beverage are available for purchase. All proceeds are then donated to a designated charity each year. This even has been on hold during Covid.
EASTER EGGSTRAVAGANZA: We want children to know that God loves them and so do we. So join us each year on the Saturday before Easter for an eggstravaganza of fun with an egg hunt, games, crafts, and a light meal.
TRUNK 'R TREAT: October is always a trunk-load of fun on the Saturday before Halloween at Courtland-Oakfield. Join in some safe, friendly fun each year with a simple hot dog meal.
SUMMER CAMP: We love to send our kids to summer camp. There are several opportunities at a variety of sites throughout West Michigan. Courtland-Oakfield funds are also available to help cover costs. ROCKFORD FARM MARKET: For one Saturday each July, Courtland-Oakfield collects donations of home-baked goods to sell at the Rockford Farm Market in downtown Rockford. Proceeds are then given to North Kent Community Services to help combat food insecurity in northern Kent County.
